Well, about a year ago I was all excited to watch Randy Couture beat Joes senseless. This year I’m fired up to see people try and compete with the 360 lb hulk that is Bob Sapp.
Now last year, Randy could not strike guys — just throw, grapple and submit. This year though, the previews show Sapp landing a wicked ass knee strike to someone’s head. Gotta wonder if that’s going to be allowed to happen on the show or if it’s just promotional hype. So, maybe it’s going to be MMA rules with boxing gloves on? Oy. Bring the pain!
One of the knocks on Sapp is that he’s slow. Sure Bob telegraphs, emails, and then hand writes his strikes but it’s BOB SAPP. If he tags you, you generally know it and will be the worse for wear. I hope the Joes can stick and move or can take a leg kick. If you’re not used to it, a leg kick will put you down instantly. So that makes we wonder how hard he’s going to be throwing or how long he can go against a sequence of Joes, especially since the Joes are supposed to be more athletic this season, no? If I recall Roy Jones — he kind of took it easy on them. Maybe the season they’re going for a bit more “reality” in the boxing / mma area. Should be interesting.
***Update 3/22/2008***
Look, now we know that Bob Sapp makes his appearance in the finals. Every week this post has gotten pounded by viewers looking for some info about Sapp’s appearance on PvJ and by pure elimination, we now know, for sure, he’s in the final show. I wish I could have offered more info, but all I had (and do have ) is my enthusiasm about seeing The Beast smack the crap out of some Joes.
But, back to the show… we knew that Sapp just had to be one of the final bosses.
On one hand, kudos to Spike for keeping us all in suspense about it, but after all of this hype I just have to wonder whether or not the episode is going to disappoint. What do you think?

Does anyone have any idea WHEN Sapp is supposed to show up? Which episode?
I know this is a Bob Sapp on Pros vs Joe’s post, but it’s worth mentioning the Sapp / Nortje fight last night. Plain and simple – Sapp just got his ass handed to him — and by his ex training partner no less.
Bob didn’t look very good at all. He came out and got into a clinch but then did nothing — wound up putting his head down and just ate a right hand that opened up a cut. More pummeling ensues as he runs away…
And then he goes and says his hammy went out? Really? Come on now.
Bob, you weren’t ready. Maybe kicking Joe’s in the head went to yours? Maybe less concentration on Brand Sapp and more concentration on actually fighting?
Finally, the whole reason anyone seemed to want to watch this show — Bob Sapp.
Watch Bob kick Coach Goody’s posterior chain
No Chance.
Even Johnny Knoxville would not do this…
…and Jamal Anderson steamrolls Joe’s as well.
