Have you seen this video of an elephant painting a “self portrait”? On top of that – it seems, from the video, that there are multiple elephants painting and getting rousing huzzahs from the crowd as the handlers bring the freshly crafted images by. So it’s not just one, but many, elephant artists. I’m not sure what the other ones are painting — do you know? I thought I saw some flowers go by…
Anyhow, it’s funny that the knee jerk reaction is to call it a self portrait. It’s not amazing enough that this pacaderm can paint the likeness of its species, but we jump right to that it’s painting a picture of itself.
If this is trickery – it’s the best kind. If this is real…it brings up all sorts of questions to me about Big Things. Even more so if it’s a self portrait.
