I could write a lot about this but, suffice it to say that:
If your local installation of WordPress seems like it went into the tank for no reason, there is of course a reason. And that reason is YOU DID SOMETHING. Sure you might want to blame WP for it and go through all these machinations of taking plugins out and putting them back in and deleting installed themes. You might even have the thought of looking at Apache’s error log. You might decide that the tiny bit you are looking at is where the problem lies and decide to look at things like disabling your firewall and checking ports and other haphazard troubleshooting and even look at your php.ini and httpd.conf files.
Then maybe, just maybe after a day or so of getting nowhere, you remember that you used to do this troubleshooting thing professionally and decide to act that way instead of like n00b. You test php and html pages outside of WordPress. They suck pond water with big load times. Obviously the problem is with Apache. Look at the error log again. LOOK AT IT. Something seems to be wrong with J-Run. That’s funny, because you disabled all the ColdFusion services just a little while ago to speed up boot time…
Oh. Then it hits you. You disabled CF8. You didn’t uninstall it. Obviously there is more mojo going on with the Apache configuration and CF8 than you thought. Duh. That seems so obvious now. You turn on all the services for CF8 and bingo — things are groovy again and Apache loves you again. Mostly.
Gotta love computer issues. Always self made. My uncle John used to run systems for a big bank. His big joke was always saying he didn’t want to retire because he was waiting for the system to make the first mistake and he wanted to be there when it did.
