Well, it’s been a week since I was up at NorCal CrossFit listening to Rob Wolf give the lowdown on gluten among many other bits of useful dietary information.
I left there knowing I had to fix things with my diet and pledged I’d give the Paleo dealio a whirl for 45 days.
Starting weight: 190.5
Week One Ending Weight: 183.5
7 lbs in a week is a lot, I know. Thing is, I’m eating to satisfaction and eating, for the most part, four meals a day. I’m going to bed around 10:30PM and waking up at around 6:30AM and not getting up in the middle of the night suffering from hyperphagia the way I have most of my adult life. These are good things. I’m leaning out.
One of the gauges to tell if it’s too much too fast or just too much loss is performance. Now yesterday’s WOD was pretty much horrific for me and I felt like I was behind the curve after the first 400m but because I haven’t done that WOD before it’s hard to say if my performance was suffering. I think so though. It would have been miserable no matter what but I think it was a bit more so. The thrusters were just crazy heavy this time around.
Prior to that bit of fun, there was the latest installment of Fight Gone Bad and I got a 279 on that — way better than my 189 the first time through at my CF Cert. Hey that means I’m fitter! Thing is – it’s hard to gauge my performance there because of the long time between attempts and the relatively light weights. 75 lbs thrusters and sumo deadlift high pulls are a lot easier than 63 reps of of 95 lb thrusters.
Bottom line, I’m going to try eating just a little more so the weight loss is about 3 lbs a week.
