Strong Efforts Lead to AWESOME Rest time.

Thing is, it’s been kind of nice taking a lackadaisical approach to getting ready instead of blasting out the door in an early morning mental fog that my black coffee injection hasn’t fought off yet.

A shower, a shave. The gathering of the newspaper and subsequent perusing of the funnies, sports and politics. In that order.

Never mind that the paper is the Sac Bee and that I pretty much detest it.

That said – Pearls Before Swine was pretty funny today. Nothing beats Cajun Crocs doing a follow up customer survey on the cousin of a zebra they ate.

And on the sports side, big man and ex UC Davis Aggie is doing ok on a crappy St. Louis Rams team as their TE (technically he’s their H-Back). Nice to see a local guy making good.

Maybe he retires, drops 10lbs or so and takes out Brock Lesnar. Someone has to.

Everything is going well! I just started to exercise again and we continue to add clients. Yay!

I just finished that site not too long ago. If you need car service in NYC – they are the peeps to go with.

Kind of had things going on — on all sorts of fronts. On one front there’s the whole planning CrossFit Davis thing. On the other front I’ve been hospitalized 2x because I have the body of the 27 year old me but the intestines of an 80 year old. That’s hyperbole, but fairly representative about how I feel about it.

Oh yeah, I also found out I only have one kidney. How about that? I now consider myself a spokesperson for kidney donation and the record holder for all CrossFit WODS performed by a one kidneyed male. Turns out you can just get by with one.

Back to the hospitalization thing….

Amazing. I eat right. I CrossFit. I do all the right stuff. Wham. Two bouts of (most likely) diverticulitis and my UC is back as well. A cynics view would be to look at it like it makes no difference, all that effort, all the discipline of CrossFit and managing a fairly paleo diet if this is what’s going to happen anyway.

I feel like it saved my life though.

Fitness (ie, super-wellness) is a barrier, shield, defense — however you want to put it, against sickness. I’d have hated to be the fat version of me facing down these two attacks. Let’s put it this way — if you are going to have to fight a condition or illness, would you rather be:

• in the best shape of your life
• joe / joesephine couch potato

Can’t hurt at the least. Helps immeasurably at best. From a pragmatic point of view, being fit is the way to go to enjoy / get more out of life. That’s why I’m back in the CrossFit saddle and training.

During all the tumult, I’ve wondered about the purpose of this here blog and decided to make it a members only deal.

That said, I can’t even say that it’s going to be updated all that much — as my attention is going to be turned full time to CrossFit Davis and the CrossFit Davis website, which will have a Blog. A much more focused, fitness oriented, CrossFitty blog. While things are in flux as I finalize (for now) what’s going to be on the site, I can say that there’s probably going to be a mixture of public and registered member content.

Who can be a member? What crucible needs to be endured?
